High mileage 2.0 tdci powershift

Featured Replies

Hi my mondeo powershift is very close to 240k miles it runs well since I bought it a few months ago , maybe a tiny clutch judder very rarely if hot ,  but fine ,  the  service history was sketchy, so I've  decided to do a complete service including the powershift to see how many miles I can get out of this powershift , I see the kits online but just wondering if anybody has tried  a different oil and bought the filter seperate  , as I see valvoline do a 5lt  dual clutch oil which I wouldn't say is too cheap either,   just wondering if anybody did it their own way with good results  ,  and also does anybody have a generally preferred timing kit brand for the 2.0 tdci , thanks

There are quite a few threads on here about the Powershift Transmission. 240k miles eh, it's doing well, hopefully to continue.

In view of the probs we get with Powershift DCT450 I would only ever use genuine Ford approved oil and filter.

I guess you know the oil and filter should be replaced every 3 years or 37,500 miles whichever occurs first. It is most important that this is done

When you do the service leave the old filter to drain off for a couple of days and then examine it very carefully. Look out for minuscule bits of plastic off white in colour. If there are any it is first signs of front clutch breaking up

I guess you know the procedure for changing the oil and filter?

Hi thanks,  there's a good one on you tube by a guy called Gary,  seems straightforward enough , I'm tempted by valvoline dct fluid it meets m2c936a for powershift but it may kill the car . We are also considering a powershift galaxy,  a bit risky but I like the powershift when it's working anyway,  on an old barge like the mondeo I have it might be interesting to see how the valvoline  dct does with a decent filter on it

Thanks to Trevorb I realise its not a powershift after all but an aisin warner afw21 , so that explains probably why it's still operational,  I will still service it but thanks to  Trevor i now know what il be servicing  , people here like trevor make sites like these what they  are , I just considered it a powershift  , silly me .

Any Advice on fluid for an aisin warner afw21 appreciated and easy flush method,  to anyone  wondering you probably have one of these aswell if your a pre 2010  mondeo and it's is a 6 speed auto

Hi Joe, yes, in my first reply I hadn't noticed that your vehicle was a 2007 year - hence it could not be a Powershift Trans.

Not to worry, all sorted now

There is no easy flush method etc on the Aisin Warner transmission as officially it does not require any servicing. If you drain the oil, old oil will still be left in the torque converter and the transmission cooler - as far as I know it is just a matter of draining and refilling the trans two or three times (running the engine/trans for a few miles) to get somewhere near a situation where most of the oil is new
