Strange electrical problem

Featured Replies

Does anyone have any ideas about what might be going on with my 2014 s-max 2.0 diesel here.

Randomly, when I press the start button, there will be no lights on the dash and no attempt to start the engine. This can happen just a few minutes after the engine was turned off.  I've discovered that to bring it to life all I have to do us touch a screwdriver blade on the positive battery terminal. Everything then goes back to normal and the car starts first time but I have to enter the radio code and reset the clock.

Anyone got any ideas about where to look for the root of the problem?

I don't even want to know how you discovered that 😂. Certainly never heard that before.

My guess would be your battery terminal is making bad contact with the positive/negative lead. Make sure the terminals are tight, otherwise take them off, clean them up with some sandpaper or scotchbrite, apply a bit of grease where the clamp sits on the terminal and reconnect the battery (ensuring the terminals are tight).
