Any Mk3 2L petrol experts still on here?

Featured Replies

Hi. I have a 2005 Mk 3 2L petrol estate. 77500 miles. Been very good car. Just filled up today at Asda 20 Litres , now indicates E10 petrol, coming home  (6 mile) car did a judder ABS light came on and speedo , gauges went dead. Ran roughly. Very near home so got in . Smells hot and rough running. I have an Autel code reader which says no codes. Very odd but does not seem s happy at all. Any suggestion ? Thanks.

I did not put diesel in the receipt shows the petrol price. I have used E10 in my other car already from ASDA and it has run fine a KIA.

congratulations you have the one Ford model that can not use E10 petrol.

Before you destroy the engine I would fill the tank with 'Super Unleaded' petrol which is still E5.

https://www.gov.uk/check-vehicle-e10-petrol

E10 vehicle check says "E110 is cleared for use  in all petrol driven Ford models sold in Europe since 1992 excluding:-

Ford Mondeo 1.8 SCI from 2003 to 2007.

As John mentions above, 2.0 is cleared for E10. Whether it's a good idea or not is being discussed on other threads!😀

I do not have SCi. Mine is definitely a 1999cc Duratec HE.

The use of E10 will be a longer term issue for older cars . Eating away at fuel lines etc. It would not stop a car in 6 miles.

Anyway I have found my alternator is not charging and the car was just packing up from lack of electricity. Having charged the battery it started fine but there is no charge as the battery voltage across the terminals in not rising but stays on 12.4 and falling. So alternator must be not working. Belt is ok and not loose. No obvious cables unplugged.
