Mk4 Towbar Electrics

Featured Replies

Hi Guys,

I'm looking to fit a towbar on a 2012 Titanium X Sport for a small camping trailer that i'll be using once/twice a year.

So far i've been quoted £635 for a Brink detachable with 7 pin dedicated wiring with coding or £493 for the same towbar with universal wiring with bypass.
Is there any major benefit of opting for the dedicated wiring over the universal? Does the universal wiring still need the software update?
From what I've read, the parking sensors are deactivated with the dedicated wiring/coding, however there's a button on the dash which turns them off so that wouldn't be an issue.

Any thoughts & advice would be appreciated.

The dedicated Ford wiring and software has the following features:

(a) Disables the rear parking sensors

(b) Disables the towing vehicles rear fog light

(c) Has the towing indicator repeater light on instrument panel activated (Legal Requirement that there has to be some kind of indication)
