Koolkuts1
Hello all, im back after a little break from fords with a beaut of a car, 2.2 ST tdci but I bought it cheap because it’s broken. The ad said it had a airlock in the fuel system but based on some looking into it. It looks like the fuel pumps gone which seems like a regular fault on these. Anyway I expected it and got the car cheap enough where I’m happy to replace it. Now I’ve got little time so it’s going to be a weekend job. Obviously I’ve got the car with a bad pump and it does run on easy start (I know what easy start can do to the engine but I got this car cheap enough that if I broke it i’ld make plenty profit so I’m not worried.) Now I need to know if the injectors will need replacing too or I’ll be okay to clean them somehow, I’m concerned about metal swarf coming through and wiping them out or having already wiped them out. I am going to be draining the whole fuel system and flushing it to remove any swarf left inside but trying to think of a way to do this to the injectors. Just incase anyone’s wondering I know the pumps bad due to the lack of fuel pressure from a visual inspection and diagnostic view, the rail only gets a maximum pressure of 1000kpa or 145psi. any help would be great. FatHead1979
If the pump has dumped a load of swarf into the system, I'd expect some of it to have made it's way through to the fuel filter. So personally I'd check the filter 1st and if it's not full of shimmery stuff, take it as a positive that there's unlikely to be swarf in the injectors. Koolkuts1
Hi I appreciate your reply, this was my first thought and I did try it anyway but the previous owner replaced the filter before properly diagnosing it meaning any previous that’s been dragged through is no longer there. in better news when I have tested this there was no swarf coming through the out spout on the filter which fills me with a little hope. I’ve decided to buy some secondhand known working injectors anyway and I will see if it works without them for confirmation otherwise swap them out. The cars already found my soft spot so I will probably end up buying all it wants
Koolkuts1
Hi again, didn’t want to make another post but also looking into the fuel pump replacement, it seems I need a specialist timing tool to stop the sprocket from falling and losing the engine time. While in my previous post I said I’m happy to spend the money on the car I’m also trying to thing logically, all the tools I see are quite expensive and it seems like something you only use once is there a cheaper alternative? To be honest mate, this forum is not that active for the old MK3 Mondy anymore. Have you tried posting on https://www.talkford.com/categories/ford-mondeo-mk3-2000-2007.89/ ? Unfortunately the MK3 isn't that common anymore (I guess most people have moved onto something newer) and less owners means less people to ask for help/advice.
