Never seen one of these before. What is it?

Mark 1,  2.0 ltr. Ghia with Zetec engine. Can anyone tell me what that red plastic thing is and am I ever likely to need to do anything with it?

That'll be your flux capacitor - hard to get fuel for it these days though...😄

Well I very much like the answer from @StephenFord it's much better than the answer I'm going to give.

The 'red plastic thing' is exactly that !!

It is a red plastic plug blanking cap used to protect the end of a plug that is not in use on your car. Feel free to get hold of it and pull it out of the plug and you'll find its just a bit  of plastic.

I know the next question is going to be "so what is the plug for" and to be honest I don't know. It will be for an option that your car doesn't have maybe front fog lights or front parking sensors, or it could be the connector for the optional flux capacitor ! 🤣

Flux capacitor is part of the convenience pack according to the ford salesman I bought from. 🤔

ive got a 1.5 Fared RedBull capacitor in my mk2.5 focus, it stops my headlights from dimming when the sub is flexing, by storing a revivor of power which is instantly available to the amplifier as required,

so the battery feeds power to the capacitor at a consistent steady pace and the amplifier slugs power out of the capacitor as it requires,

feeling low? get a RedBull 😅 one off custom made by myself

I can tell this is a really clever mod, because I never understood a word of it 🤣

They were called 'power caps' in the olden days...  Surely you went through the phase of massive sub & amp back in the day?

No Tom, I was in to 9" Cibie Oscars, illegal CB radio, and whale tail spoilers LOL

I would point out it should say ‘farad’ not ‘fared’. . A capacitor is basically a rechargeable battery , a sort of reservoir of electricity to help stop voltage drop when there is high demand for power. Perhaps old six volt motorbikes should have had them as the brake always went dim and bright in time with indicators

My thanks to you all, especially Stephen Ford's first reply which brightened my day no end!

Having started my motorcycling days (a very long time ago) with an ex-GPO 125cc BSA Bantam (all that I could afford) even if the flux capacitor idea is an hilarious aside, I can identify with the dimming, though in my case it was the headlight dimming whenever the rear brake was applied. Mind though, that was very rare to use the brakes, as it was quicker–and more efficient– to put both feet down on to the road and use shoe leather to stop the thing.

When I was biking indicators were unheard of - well, apart from the Ariel Leader IIRC.
