One Dipped light coming on when led day lights turn on

Featured Replies

Hello all,

been trying to find some info on this but Google is failing and a Ford dealer reset the computer to try and resolve the issue but no luck yet.

I have a mondeo 2019 estate hybrid and when the day light led strips are coming on the near side dipped headlight comes on as well. Then when I switch to dipped or it does automatically that same bulb dims.

wondering if there is anything I can do myself before having to take it somewhere to get it looked at. As the days get darker it’s getting more urgent.

cheers for any help you might be able to give. If any more info can be given I will try my best!

Hello David, thats an intresting fault you have. The lights are all controlled by the BCM (body control module) which is part of the fusebox normally found behind the glovebox.

On cars older than yours there is often a problem of water finding its way in to the connectors of the BCM and causing random faults like yours, but I would think that unlikely on your car.

The most probable cause will be a faulty headlight unit. If you really want to test this you can remove both complete headlight assemblies from the car and then just for test purposes swap them over. Of course they won't fit in the car so you will have to use tape or a couple of volunteers to hold the headlights. If the fault changes side the the headlight is faulty, and if not then its the car.

Bear in mind that the LED headlights aren't cheap, and they're a sealed unit so you can't replace individual parts inside the lamp. Since this is a 2019 model it should still be under warranty so make sure the Ford dealer fixes it to your satisfaction.

Sorry maybe I didn’t explain well. The LED day lights work perfect Roy fine, it’s the halogen dipped light bulb that comes on incorrectly.

I don’t believe I have a warranty as it had a slight accident and I bought it second hand.

If the car is less than 3 years old then it has the manufactures warranty it doesn't matter how you came to be the owner of it.

So I stand by original statement "Swap the headlight assembly over and see if the fault transfers side"

Is the reason for the headlight problem ?
