Ford Galaxy front wipers come at max speed when the car exceed 25 mph

Featured Replies

HELP, the wipers on my Galaxy mk2 2010 GHIA 2.0 TDCI come on when the car exceeds 25 miles per hour and would not go off unless I slow down the car. I can turn them on manually when I am driving slowly below 25 m/h, but I cannot turn them off when I exceed 25 m/h. As soon as I accelerate, they run at top speed again. So far I took out the F22 fuse to drive it normally. Although I do not have any message on the dashboard. My windscreen was replaced on 10 August and everything was ok till 29 September. had my local friendly mechanic plug in to the OBD coupler it had shed load of faults come up. mention of the wiper motor. Disconnected the battery to reset everything and did not work.  Done some research and someone was suggesting that the Alarm sounder module needs replacing???

I wonder how expensive that could be?

Any advise would be great. all ideas are better than none

Hi, just joined so hi to everyone on here.

Has this been sorted?

I'm having the same problem on my 09 Galaxy. The wipers work in every position when stationary but turn themselves on over 25mph! They go at a fast speed but slow to normal when I use the washers.

Slow the car down and they stop but still get an occasional wipe. They seem to go faster as the car accelerates?

This all started after using the car on a very wet day last week.

Any help would be appreciated.

I have 2009 s-max same problem just started.

Wipers come on in fast speed at 25mph and turn off below 25mph, I tried using the wiper control stalk and washers, rear wiper. Rear wiper turns on and off washers operate as normal, but windscreen wipers stay on until speed is under 25mph????????????

When car is under 25mph all is normal!!!???

Local Ford dealer don't have any ideas £90.00 Hr to investigate!!

Most recent work carried was an air bag recall on steering wheel?

Has anybody found out the answer to this problem yet.

Await your reply.

Wiper motors use a dynamic braking system to stop them from moving when in the park position. This is to
(a) quickly stop the motor so it doesn't start another wipe cycle and
(b) stop the force of air on the blades being able to move the blades to start a wipe when travelling at speed, which is what I think could be happening.

The braking is done by simply shorting out the motor. If you have replaceable relays for the front wipers changing them would be the first and easiest thing to try.

An interesting thought. Your idea could possibly be tested with the ignition, by gently trying to move the wipers away from the park position and see if they can be made to start the wipe cycle.

Make sure to keep your hands out of the way of the wiper blades.
