2017 focus navigation error

Featured Replies

Hi All, just bought a 2017 focus and noticed that a navigation error exists. The GPS is crossed through, anyone seen this or any thoughts on where to start. Not sure if the DAB is working also but FM radio is fine. Thanks in advance.

Update, I just run the GPS signal diagnostic and found there is no signal at all. Does this mean and ariel or wiring fault? Or something else?

Definite GPS antennae issue, that's where I'd start looking

sync3?

just get a cheap fakra gps aeriel off amazon and put it in the A pillar.

Thanks Gents, it is a Sync 3 v2.2 Matt, does this affect your suggestion? Also does that mean there is no SD card? Because I can't seem to find the slot for this based on other people's posts previously.

Sync3 doesn't use a SD card, maps are loaded onto the apim it's self.

You could try updating it via the ford website. You tried a master reset?

There's also a option to clear any Nav faults in the secret menu.

Might be worth a try.

Testing settings... Remove Nav malfunction

Hello Darren, since you have never seen the satnav working it is very probable that it became 'broke' after a previous software update. Over the last year there have been major problems with Ford updates killing the APIM on a number of models. Mostly it seems to effect 2018 but there are cases of both 2017 and 2019 models having suffered total loss of the satnav after updates.

There is a company called Cyanlabs who provide for free the real Ford updates in a package that seems to work better. I would suggest that you have nothing to loose by trying the full 'Uninstall' - 'Reinstall' procedure. It will erase all previous updates and reset the Sync3 back to its original settings, then it will do the full install of all new files. The process can take at least 1 full hour and normally takes 90 minutes. While doing this the USB pen must not be removed and it is better to try and let the system at least reboot and start the new install before switching off if you can not wait anylonger. The system will continue with the file update next time you turn the ignition on.

Go to this site for the files:-

There are many on here that will be able to help if you have questions.

Thanks again Matt and unofix.

I have tried the master reset, but not the clearing of Sat nav faults, so I will give that a go tomorrow.

I will also look into cyanlabs as an option, but might try slaving in a new aerial first to see it fixes it before I reinstall the software etc (not that brave lol). I will keep you posted, thanks

Hi Darren, it will take more than than a Master reset if the its the APIM bricked by a Ford software update.

I can't say 100% that you don't have an areial fault, but I feel it is more likely to be a fault caused by software.

Just an update - I updated to SW to 3.0 using Ford's sync update online and it has not helped the fault. I will look into aerial more now, I also may try the Cyan labs SW as I have read they sometimes fix things that Ford's SW can't.

I also had the clutch pedal sticking down today so beginning to think I have bought a piece of ****. Disappointing its only 4 years old with 30K on the clock.

mmmmm ....... just a thought but the clutch pedal and the satnav might not be connected 🤣

Yeah think your right 🤣, clutch booked in for Monday.

Going back to the GPS, I have noticed that FM radio is all good no signal issues but DAB, and AM cannot tune in anything. I guess this could be related but I am scanning the Internet for how?

I am wondering about aerial, aerial amplifier, and cable/connectors now. Or could they be separate issues?

The AM band is very little used these days so you're not missing much.

The DAB aerial pre-amp is known to be a bit temperamental. It's located in the top of the tailgate on your model.

I still think you have an issue caused by a bad Ford update. I would use the CyanLabs reformatt tool, then wipe and do full reinstall. They do a complete automated package that does it all for you.
