Forum - SORT BY not sorting in a logical order (most recent etc)...?

Is it just me or are these forums quite awkward to view when using the SORT BY options.

Something simple like ordering by 'most recent/latest/newest first' - seems not to be possible. Even using the custom SORT BY option seems not to sort things as asked. Dates all seem to be mixed up.

Don't want to trawl through lots and lots of stuff that is older and not of interest, just to browse things that are. Always nice to look at the most recent when logging in, but failing to find it that simple.

Maybe just me or my browser, but very frustrating to use. Apologise in advance if something I am missing!

    By default, the forums are sorted by putting the topics with the latest replies at the top. That's why it's a little frustrating when a 8 year old topic gets bumped by a new reply from someone asking a completely irrelevant question.

    You can use the sort by option to order by recently created though?
