Focus 2008 1.6tdci power steering malfunction

I keep getting  a fault that comes on the dash that says power steering malfunction sometimes it clears its self and will be fine sometimes it does it when driving and says reduced power then goes again and I can drive again sometimes it won’t let me start the car because of the fault can anyone help

I don’t know why that’s put my second name but it’s a focus 2008 1.6 tdci

My son’s 2008 ST threw up engine malfunction messages and cut to idle recently. Once with power steering failure message.  Turned out to be dry / failing joints in the instrument cluster in his case.

It seemed to happen when running for a time , not so much when cold.

A possibility perhaps

Nice one will have a check of that and see what a garage says to do you know if diagnostics would of found the fault

My son had to drive back from Cornwall slapping the dash above the centre of the cluster which temporarily shocked it back into life . Having read about the issue previously, we were fairly confident this was the problem. Had the cluster reconditioned locally in Rainham Essex, About a week ago. Haven’t cleared the fault codes yet but have been told ‘U’ code prefix relates to loss of communication between modules.

Cheers rl123 it must be same fault. when I hit the dashboard the fault goes and clears straight away every time I hit it 👍🏻
