Keep or scrap Ford Focus 2004-2008 Zetec

Featured Replies

We have a Ford Focus 2007 Zetec 5dr that has 152,000 miles on the clock. It has had its suspension fixed recently and has a known service history (We are the second owner, the first owner is my stepdad). The car is pretty unsightly with a quarter panel dent that the insurance company would not fix. It is due for a cambelt change, has a malfunctioning radio, and it needed a new radiator today which we went ahead with.

Including the radiator, the total cost of these works would be £1600. If we spent the money, then the car failed in a major way, it would be more difficult to afford to replace it than if we cut our losses.

But maybe the car could run another 100,000 miles!

Should we keep it or scrap it?

Thanks

Caroline

If it was me, I'd keep it going, but I also do all the work on my cars myself. It's not worth paying a garage to fix, as it would cost 3x the value of the car.

My car is a 2005, but in good mechanical nick, with a fairly rust/dent free body. If at all you can afford to, in some years I'm convinced this will be an appreciating asset. Once the government ban the sale of ICE cars, there will be an increased demand for proper cars as not everyone will be nipping out to buy the latest Tesla!
