Very weird radio issue since battery change

Featured Replies

This issue is very strange and I can't understand it. A few month ago the battery in my 61 plate focus needed changing so it's now got a new stop start battery. This is when the issue started ...... with my radio.

This is where it gets weird so stick with me.......

My DAB radio is tuned many stations, mainly for the wife as I listen to Talk Sport on my way to and from work and most times my wife is not in the car.
Since the battery has been changed, there is a 50-50 chance that Talk Sport will not "play" on the radio and it will show No Reception.
If I drop to say Capital Radio then that will play as expected, dropping back to Talk Sport has a 75-25 that it will then play but sometimes I need to jump back and forth several times with a pause between each change.

If I leave it on "No Reception" then it doesn't connect
If I exit the car with Capital radio on, when I start the car the next morning Capital will play but then swapping to Talk Sport doesn't always work
If I exit the car with the radio off and turn it on after ignition then Talk Sport may not play.
If it's not playing and I turn the engine off and back on again then it could start to work.

Once it is playing then it's fine for the whole trip.

I've tried to retune it in my drive way
I've tried parking the car the opposite way round so the reverse sensors don't trip on start
I've saved it under another "fast button"

I know Talk Sport wasn't the active station when the battery was changed as my wife was in the car and she hates it.

How can a battery change affect Talk Sport only?!?!?

I would say that you have a damaged AM aerial pre-amp. Might have been caused by a voltage spike when the new battery was connected, might just have been one of those things.

In the tailgate near the top behind the plastic trim are 2 aerial pre-amp units, one of which is for the AM band.

I figured something might have broken, it's just weird that only Talk Sport is affected.

I'll have a look when I get chance .. thanks 🙂

Maybe the car has better taste in radio stations than you ? 🤣

Changing battery can cause many strange things to happen. Once I had an issue when Halfords where checking my battery life and didn't tighten the minus cable properly and that slight going off caused the radio to only come out the tweeters and once I took it off for a bit then put it back on again it went back to 100% working. I would try that first.

More than likely 😃, it's easy listening on the drive too and from work 🚘

It could be, it was Halfords that fit it as it was a %$&(%$ to try and get out myself. I have change batteries in other cars before but I can be a little clumsy and as there were many things stopping the battery from being a simple extraction so I paid the extra and got them to do it. They did struggle for ages trying to get the old battery out 😂
