Keeping it original

Featured Replies

Hey,

I’ve decided to have the wheels fully refurbished, it’s that time!

as I’m trying to keep my car as original as I can I wondered if there is any way of finding out what make of tyres would have been fitted to the car when it was sold as new.

bit random, but I like the idea of it looking better than it did 12 years ago

Do you mean the brand or size?

Size is easy. Inside the divers door there should be a white sticker with all the tyre sizes for the various wheels fitted from the factory along with the relevant tyre pressures.

The OEM brand really doesn't matter haha. Nobody has ever looked at a 10+ year old 'non-performance' car and said "those tyres aren't the brand fitted from the factory". Just stick something from a well known brand (such as Continental, Michelin, Goodyear etc) and call it good.

Yeh actually meant brand.

I know nobody will ever look at the tyres and think that… but I will😂.

just thought if I’m gonna replace tyres next time around I’d match them to the OEM

Saying that, I’ve just fitted an Xtrons android so not exactly keeping it original there am I😂

It seems likely to me that the exact model / tread pattern of tyre won’t be available now as the tyre manufacturers bring out new models. Although the new ones are probably no better as tyres are not a new invention that is still developing  rapidly.

Ford does not use one tyre manufacturer. Large batches of tyres are bought from several manufacturers. Which brand of tyres are installed on a particular vehicle will depend on price, availabilty and tyre size.

My 2005 Focus MK2 with 16 Inch alloy wheels did have Bridgestone Turanza tyres factory fitted
My 2010 Focus MK2.5 with 17 Inch alloy wheels did have Continental Sportcontact 2 tyres factory fittted.
My 2013 Focus MK3 with 16 Inch alloy wheels did have Goodyear Vector 4-season tyres factory fitted (4-season tyres were optional).

My 2011 mk2. 5 focus tdci with 16inch wheels come with michelin primacy 3s from new and I always replaced with michelin primacy 4s.

My 2010 mk2 focus RS with 19inch wheels came with continental contisport 3s and I replaced with continental contisport 6s.

I like to keep the same tyre as supplied, but if the tyre has been updated I would buy that.

Cheers mark, sounds daft but I like the idea the car has the same manufacturer obviously I’ll buy the latest upgraded version👍
