2.2 (DW12) diesel, conrod big-end torque settings please

Featured Replies

Please excuse my intrusion, but I've been going around in circles trying to find the big-end torque settings for the 2.2 Diesel (DW12) engine as used in the Landrover Freelander 2 (and many other vehicles inc Mondeo).
It is not in the JLR workshop manual, and Haynes say the values are not available.
Further google searches for DW12 suggest that if the big ends are loosened then a new short engine must be sourced as the big ends were designed never to be removed.

Anyone on here able to confirm this or offer the torque settings.

Many thanks
Jules

Crumbs! Do you know which Mondeo mk it was fitted in? There is another Ford forum; talkford.com which has a Mondeo section worth asking there also. I'm not a Facebook fan myself, but maybe some groups there might have 'the knowledge you seek'..... Good luck!

Cheers Nicam. I dont know much about the  Mondeos I'm afraid.
The DW12 was a PSA group design, 2.2L 4 cylinder turbo diesel used in Peugeots , Citreons, Fords, and Freelander2 (ceased production in 2014). The Freelander2 was designed during Ford's ownership of JLR which is why it got this engine. Was built in Halesowen and is the most reliable Landrover ever built to date by quite some margin. Its shares a lot of basic parts with Mondeo and some Volvos. Some parts even have FoMoCo stamped on them.

I have a Haynes manual for the S-Max 2.2 ( I have a 2011 2.2 Mondeo), no idea if it's referred to as a DW12 ( I know the 2.0 were DW10C etc).

Anyway it lists engine codes Q4WA, KNWA and KNWB and all have the same torque settings for the big end bearing caps (is that what you want?) 20NM and then 70 degrees, must use new bolts.
