Heated Rear Screen

Featured Replies

Probably been asked before, Heated rear scren only clears half way from the top and slowly at that, new glass or tailgate ? If tailgate will i need to swap locks ? I've not bumped banged or scratched the wires. I vaguely remember seeing something on a random google about a repair kit, but cant find it again. i know a guy that will fit a replacement from a scrapper so not paying full whack.

Cheers for any assist guys and gals

If you can see a gap in the elements anywhere, I have seen a little bottle of electrically conductive paint that can be brushed on the gap, I recall my grandfather doing this on his Renault 5. Search conductive paint on eBay, not tried myself so I can’t recommend a particular product

Cheers, will get my daughter to look, eyes arnt what they used to be LOL

It will just be hairline breaks in the heating element, not easy to see but it helps having someone shine a bright torch on the outside while someone checks the inside.

The electric conductive paint works well if used with care. You need to clean a little bit of the heating element either side of the break with "Scotch Brite" or a fibre glass pen before putting the paint on.

Finally got over to my daughters to borrow her eyes, she spotted it almost immediately, the bottom 8 horizontals has a less than hair thickness scratch through them and in the glass. Didnt really want to go second-hand as they wont guarantee a working heater element, and a brand new one is £200+.

Next time i'm near Halfords gonna pick up one of those repair kits, nothing lost for £12.

they make such a terrible mess when you close the tailgate on something in the boot that's too big. Still I suppose that's why we have glass breakage as part of the policy ......

Its only the last few months ive needed to use it, after a mild summer, i was tempted to smash it and claim but did'nt potentially mess with my NCB so was done by previous owner.
