Mk4 SOS button … has anyone actually used it?

Open the cover, press the button, it starts a countdown before making an automated emergency call.

The idea is to give you the option of initiating an emergency call if it hasn’t done so itself. Like if airbags didn’t go off but you’re  somehow trapped in your seat etc.

Did your dealer not show you it at hand over?

I bought my car July 2020 and all I got from the Ford dealer was the keyfobs left on an empty desk and a note to say it was in bay 18. 😟

Possibly,  but 2 years later it’s forgotten. So it’s thru to 999?

Tbf, there was a global pandemic on by then!  I just had a very quick handover with mine as well, nothing shown or explained.

I was never shown that, at least I know where the sos button is, as I'm a dinosaur I don't have a mobile phone, so might come in handy.

It can be useful to contact the emergency services if say you need help at the scene of an accident for others involved. The system sends the Emergency control centre your GPS coordinates making it easier and faster for them to find your location.

Doesn't it need the mobile to make the call?

No mobile required - it works 24 hours a day for free.

Just a little information that you might not know. You can take any mobile phone with or without a working contract/airtime provider and even without a sim card fitted you can still call 999 in the UK.
