Bainies
Not an issue, but just out of interest, does anyone know why the seatbelt buckle on the focus is much larger / thicker on the driver's side? The belt seems to have some extra metal in it. If it is a safety feature, I would have thought the passenger would get that too.
unofix
It stops the buckles being plugged in to the wrong front seat ?
Bainies
ah, makes sense I guess, thanks 🙂
Bainies
Tried this yesterday and the front seatbelts plug into both. I took a couple of (terrible) photos to illustrate what I mean. The drivers one on the left has a much bigger plastic piece on top of the buckle than the passenger one.
TomsFocus
I noticed this as soon as I got in a Mk4 and wondered what it was for. I think it must be a safety thing, maybe a magnet for a sensor in the belt plug? I don't find it very ergonomic/comfortable in the hand so can't imagine it's a choice rather than a safety mandate. MarkRS9
Never noticed this before, just went out to the car and had a look. Is a bit weird.
Alex.S
If it’s a mk4 automatic, releasing the drivers seatbelt while stopstart is working starts the engine. Maybe also for auto hold 🤔 2nd look at your pics it’s a manual!
Bainies
yes, it's a manual. It's really odd, as I can't see what it adds. The car knows if you unplug it, plus it knows when someone is sat in a seat. It just makes it more awkward to plug my belt in!
