Mk3 hid headlight not auto leveling

Featured Replies

I have a 62 plate mk3 focus with factory fitted hid headlights. One of the headlights self adjusts when the lights are turned on but the other one doesn't. I suspect that the one that is not leveling has been replaced at sometime with a genuine second hand unit. Do these lights need to programmed in to the car and if so how is this done please. Or could this be being caused by something else.

Hi David, well it won't pass an MOT with defective headlight leveling.

The auto level system is if I remember correctly inside the wheel arch on each side. There is a plastic arm that connects to the front suspension and hence how the ride hight adjusts the lights.

The plastic arm that connects the rod from the level sensor often gets broken or disconnected so take your front wheel off and have a look, you can normally see the level arm quite easy.

Thank you I have looked at the arms and they seem to be working ok

It maybe the actual sensor is not working. If you use the FORScan software you will be able to see live data from the headlight level sensors.

i had somthing similar, i replaced the loom inside the drivers side headlight.

The drivers side would point down when driving, and onlf self adjust when i pulled up infront of the garage.

Theres repair looms on ebay.
