Electric power steering fault problem

I keep on having an issue with my Ford Focus 2011 electric power steering when starting cold or on wet days. As soon as I start a message will pop up "Steering assist malfunction service required" and the steering feel heavy at the same time. If i turn it off and start it again the message clears and the power steering works fine. 

Any advice please?

    The electric power steering is very sensitive to battery voltage. Try recharging the car battery. If you are still on the original factory fitted battery it may well have reached the end of its life and need replacing.

    Hi

    Thank you for your suggestion, I changed the battery not too long ago and it is working just fine however ill bare that in mind.

    Did you reset the Battery Monitoring System when you changed the battery?
