Boot door opens randomly

Featured Replies

Recently my Focus started to act wierdly at the rear. I have a keyless system/immobiliser and recently when I want to open the boot door it doesn't open until I push the button twice rapidly on the key. The other strange thing about the trunk is it open the lock randomly. Let's say when I get in the car and switch the ignition the trunk lock opens. Or when I get off the car and use the key to lock it, the boot lock opens.

Any idea anyone?

Yes, you need a new boot lock/handle. They are less than a tenner on Ebay. Same thing happened to me (it's a very commons fault). I know you think well if it opens with a double click (like it's designed) then it must be OK - it isn't...

In the meantime I've made some research and found a "solution" which worked for a couple people.

Open the boot - Take off the boot wall carpit on the left - there will be a big black cable - unplug it - apply WD40 - plug in again - finish.

I'll give it a try and if it isn't working I replace the lock. Will update later in the day.
