Mk3.5 read from bcm write to ipc

Featured Replies

Hello,

I have been trying to learn how to read from bcm and write to ipc on a mk3.5 focus using forscan, I know how to do this using foccus but it's not working on my mk3.5 as it says there's some ecu security thing in the way, could anyone explain to me how to do it as I want to update the config on my car since I have installed an st speedometer in a non st focus, cheers.

Hello Larry, have you got the full Licensed version of FORScan ?

What make / type of ELM327 lead do you have ? you need to have a good quality lead (normally from TunnelRat Electronics but they only supply in the UK)

Yeah I have extended licence and a elm327 cable with ms and hs can, it worked fine with foccus for my mk3, so it should be fine for the mk3.5 too?

Hi Larry. Have you changed forscan to Engineering mode in the top of the screen? I had a problem with this for a while. The other thing that I got stuck on, was it was asking for calibration files and I thought Forscan was downloading them, but in fact you have to download them manually from 'Fordtech'. I'm assuming you are able to connect to the car and see all the modules?

Try to use an older Forscan version. The latest versions have a bug which causes an error while reading/writing the Central Car Configuration on the BCM and IPC.

I experienced the same problems while using the 2.4.4 Beta version and the 2.3.43 version (2.4.4 Beta has firmware update capabilities on top of the 2.3.43 functionality). After I reverted to the 2.4.3 Beta version the problem was solved.

Use the following links to download the older version:

Yeah I’m able to connect to the car and see all of the modules I’m just unsure where to exactly navigate to because I don’t want to fry my ecu or load wrong stuff in 😅

The issue is I know how to do it in foCCCus but not in forscan

I'm not sure I really understand what you're asking, but to read from the BCM you connect to the car, click on the microchip icon, pick which BCM option you want and click the 'play' icon at the bottom left. If you make a change, you change to 'engineering mode' then click 'write' and this makes the change. This is the same for the IPC.

What if there are multiple bcm options which one do I choose then? So its as straight forward as clicking on the right bcm module, click play, read from bcm, then exit enter ipc and click write?

I'm not 100% sure what you are trying to achieve, but let me give you an example of when I fitted cruise control.

I fitted the switch to the steering wheel. Then connected with forscan. Cleared the DTC's. Opened up the BCM (main) clicked on cruise control, clicked on 'edit selected', changed option to 'with cruise control' clicked on 'write'.

I then went into the IPC and did exactly the same. So you are not reading from the BCM and then writing to the IPC, you are changing the option on both the BCM and the IPC.

Thank you, I will attempt it again later today when I’m back and try to see if there’s any issues, will try to provide screenshots if there’s any, cheers yet again 💪

That's strange. I'm almost at the end of my Forscan knowledge now!! Have you tried connecting without selecting your saved vehicle?

Use an earlier version of Forscan as Wilco suggested. Try version 2.3.42.
