Focus zetec 2009 petrol engine malfunction

Featured Replies

I have an engine malfunction warning light on my car; I’m unsure yet if there is a oil leak I did notice some oil possibly petrol on the pavement next to my car but I sit idle in the car for approximately a hour each day having lunch so it may be exhaust fumes/ petrol. On the way home however I missed a gear change revved the car and the next thing I knew I was driving in limp mode and had a engine malfunction symbol displayed on the dash. Since the day it happened I reset the ECU twice and tried taking out on two trips. On the second trip the engine sign rather than just  engine malfunction sign appeared sending the car  into limp mode again. If I turn the car on and off the signs switch off immediately however depending on the revs can appear again so I change gears steadily may have been to do with me driving faster I don’t know yet.

I took it into a mechanic who run a diagnostic with the engine malfunction sign on (not the engine warning light however)  there were several problems mostly he mentioned the ECU was the main problem as there was a code saying CAN communication bus fault - receive error; which prompted him to think the ECU needs replacing! So I tried to reset the ECU and found the car sputters slightly after doing some research. Days before this I could feel the car felt off the throttle was feeling light the engine sounded clunky going over humps and every morning when changing gear I would hear it wine as I released the clutch and pressed the throttle; which then dissappear after about 5 or so gear changes and Erving the car slightly harder Any advice would be a help.

regards
