Coolant Overheat Warning, bubbling tank

Featured Replies

Hi all

I have a 2017 Ford S-Max and last night on the way home, car was running for about 50 minutes on this trip. But last night 5 minutes from home I suddenly felt a loss of power and next thing the dash displayed "Coolant Overheat" warning.

I pulled over as I had no real power at all and checked the tank to see it bubbling and it had even leaked out of the safety cap. I am not sure if the coolant was hot or not, the tank felt warm to hot but not burning. The fan was on, but I would expect that as the car had just done a 50 minute drive, however the fan stayed on even with the car fully turned off.

The temperature on the car was normal, not in the red or rising, just sitting in the middle of the gauge so I don't think the car was actually over heating.

Mileage is at about 105,000 km so really (i hope) the head gasket is not blown. I will have it towed to main dealer tomorrow but any ideas ?

Thanks

Colm
