Focus mk3 automatic - what MPG do you get?

Featured Replies

Hi,

so currently i drive a 2013 MK3 1.6 automatic and i'm getting around 24 to 27 MPG driving short trips and thats me being very light on gas so when i need more gas the MPG drops to around 20MPG on average, i know the car is a powershift automatic thats meant to get better fuel economy but surely not even 30MPG around a town is bad? i have found with my Focus to get going you need to give it quite a lot of gas or you simply wont get anywhere but i cant have a car doing not even 25MPG unless i drive like a granny....when i did a 120 mile trip on motorway other week i was only getting around 35MPG when my brothers 2.0 jeep gets over 40 MPG just driving around town.

Car has been serviced up until i bought it, was last serviced by Evans Halshaw and the car drives great so i cant see any issue, i have been told maybe its the spark plugs but surely the car would be running rough or some sort of sign they need replacing? also Ford themselves state to replace them at 100k miles my car hasn't even done 70k yet or is these type of figures normal for a powershift Focus? i just feel like im filling it up way too often and that the car is too poor fuel economy, most of my trips are just average trips around town so i know thats not the best for fuel but not even 30MPG??.

Hi,

Remove the battery negative cable from the body, clear the paint to bare metal from the area where the earth eyelet sits, grease and re-fit.

Remove the airbox completely (Take the lid off as if you're changing the air filter, disconnect the dirty air hose and pull the airbox up, it sits on rubber pegs), there are two or three further earth eyelets there, clean the paint from under those too (while the battery is still disconnected)

Clean the MAF sensor (the sensor on the air intake hose after the filter)

Check the air cleaner element is clean and not damp, if so, replace

Take the vehicle to a Ford dealer and pay them to update the software on the PCM and TCM and to reset the adaptive learning tables

See how you get on then

Change the plugs, if you wish, but only use Ford replacements
