Which OBD Tool?

Featured Replies

Hello, everyone.

I have been searching, and searching, to find out which OBD tool I need for my 2018 Ford KA+ Active  1.2 L petrol hatchback car.

The car was made in India, where it is called a "Ford Figo."

I have sent numerous emails to companies etc, and nobody replies.

So, does anyone here know?

Thanks Len.

Go to TunnelRat electronics and have a browse for elm327 with the appropriate software👍

You will need the Fiat 500 software.

Thanks for the  information, fellas.

However, after reading the information on the 'Tunnelrat Electronics' website, I am not able to use a laptop connected

to the mains during use, as recommended.

Therefore, does anyone know if there is an alternative OBD tool with a screen that is available?

Does the battery hold charge on your laptop for at least an hour? If so then you'll be fine. I use mine all the time like this, didn't even know they recommended using it plugged in.

They only say it to cover their *****. If the battery dies mid way through writing something it would corrupt the ecu.

It is only a recommendation to have the laptop connected to the mains while doing actual programming. That is true for all OBD programmers. In actual fact all that they mean is ensure that your laptop battery is fully charged and good for at least 20 minutes before starting a programming sequence.

You should in an idea world also have the car battery connected to a smart charger before and during any programming, again to ensure that the vehicle won't suddenly go in to power save due to low voltage at a critical moment.

Tunnelrat Electronics are just been honest in warning you about the need to have a healthy fully charged up laptop when doing any programming. Other makers of OBD devices just don't both to point out the serious consequences of battery powered equipment failing while in mid programming.
