Focus 1.6 titanium navigator- Wont go in gear now does

Featured Replies

Hi,

My Focus 1.6 diesel Titanium Navigator wouldn't go into gear when I started it, however when it was off it would. With some help I started it in 2nd gear and now it goes into all gears fine with no issue, possibly slipping in 1st or 2nd gear. I took it to a trust garage and they couldn't find any issues.

Can anyone help? Has anyone else experienced anything similar? Do you think it will happen again?

It's a common thing to happen even on the RS. The suggested fix when it does is to switch back to neutral or another gear then try again.

Thank you, i am not the best when it comes to cars. So is it something to worry about, ie do you think I may need to get the clutch changed soon? I have now driven it for about a week now and I haven't had anymore issues with it not going into gears

It should be fine. The clutches on the 1.6 Duratorq last a long time.

Even though it weirdly wouldn't go into at all. Roughly how long would they last the car has done 98,880 miles

It really depends on how it's been driven. If you ride the clutch or thrash about it's going to wear down quicker. You can test it by slightly engaging the clutch whilst sitting idle and listen for any dodgy noises. If it has been engaging normal since it will be a glitch. It will be a timing belt change before the clutch will go normally.

Ok brilliant thank you. I have tested that and no dodgy noises whatsoever, it's crazy but I'm glad seems perfectly fine. Thanks for the advise and help
