2011 Focus Cranks, No Start. Not getting fuel?

Featured Replies

Hi All,

My 2011 Ford Focus Duratec VCT 1.6ltr petrol (manual) has been off road for months.

This car was running perfect until my boyfriend took it on a roadtrip. 30min from returning home he said the car started coughing and lurching.

He's pulled over to have a look but couldn't get it started. RACQ said it was the fuel pump but as you could hear the pump when you turned the key and there was

good fuel pressure I wasn't convinced. After having 5 mechanics (including Ford) look at it, and no one able to work out why it wont start I reluctantly had the pump replaced.

Sure enough it still doesn't start.

Today I got it to run briefly but it was struggling. Both clutch and accelerator flat to the floor when I turned it over and pumping the accelerator.

Could smell fuel but it didn't seem like it was getting enough to run.

Last week it started up with the air filter cover off. I mentioned this to the mechanic and was able to get it to run (sounded perfect) when he blocked off the hose running from the throttle body to air filter....however tried this again the following day and it wouldn't start.

The car has a new battery,  MAF and spark plugs.

I'm getting a dtc P0691:11-2E (earlier this was 2D but I can't find enough info on codes with the additional decimal places).

First attachment is trying to work out the live data on Forscan, second one has more info in freeze frame. *The total vehicle distance shows over 1mil kms?? actual kms is 159kms...

could a module (pcm?) reset help?

**Also does this model have the Inertia fuel shut off switch?

Surely someone can interpret this info and give some advice?

2011 Focus I assume is a mk2.5. They can suffer from solder joint issues in the instrument cluster. When running Forscan, you need to read ms and hs canbus so require a elm327 which can.(usually switched).

a crude test of slapping the dash above the cluster can sometimes allow the car to start.

Petrol cars should have an inertia switch.

Funny you should say that about slapping the dash. I was in the car 1 day and had the radio on and my cat jumped on the dash and the radio cut out.

I spent 2 days looking for the inertia switch. There was no mention of it in my user manual but I downloaded the 2nd printing and it's listed there.
