Fiesta mk6.5 starts and then cuts out straight away

Featured Replies

Hi all, new member on here with a very annoying problem.  When I go to start the car it turns over but refuses to stay running.  Its a Fiesta mk6 facelift durashift 1.4

It was serviced a couple of months ago with new spark plugs and has been fine up until a few days ago when it started behaving like this.  I noticed the crankcase breather hose had a massive split in it so I have replaced that along with the valve that plugs into the end.  At the same time I cleaned out the throttle body with carb cleaner, and I have also replaced the Coolant temp sensor.  None of this cured the issue

Now I took out the MAP sensor last night and managed to damage it.  Still I cleaned it and put it back in and the car started although the revs shot up to 3000 and then the engine started surging and the display warned me of an engine fault.

Today I put in a replacement MAP sensor from the local motor factors and the car started, then immediately died just as before.  So I put the old sensor back in and the car started again, the revs shot up like before and again I got the engine fault displayed.

So my question is,  does the MAP sensor have to be programmed into the car for it to be recognised and work correctly? Or have I just got a faulty replacement?

Disconnect the vehicle battery for a couple of hours, this should reset the learned values of the PCM.
Fit the NEW MAP sensor, it doesn't require programming to the PCM.
Reconnect battery.
Start engine without touching accelerator, go for a drive.
Hopefully job done! Good luck.

Yes, but just to add to that:

When you cleaned the throttle body, you've knocked it out of step, so:

Turn the ignition on but don't start the engine

Disconnect the battery earth for 10 minutes, leave key in number 2 position

Whilst disconnected, turn on the headlamps and press the brake pedal a few times

Reconnect the battery earth whilst key still in number 2.

Get in car, close door

Turn off ignition, open and close driver's door.

Seatbelt OFF, A/C OFF, handbrake ON, feet OFF pedals.

Start engine and leave to run for 10 minutes - DO NOT TOUCH PEDALS

Turn on A/C and leave to run for a further 2 minutes - DO NOT TOUCH PEDALS

Switch off engine, open and close driver's door, restart and you should be good to go.

If not, read codes

It could be wrong MAF sensor BTW

What's puzzling me is why the car will start with the old damaged map sensor and not with the new replacement one.  The replacement part is an Intermotor one, the genuine Siemens one is £126.

I have just tried a second map sensor assuming the first one was faulty and same result.

Ok, I am now mega confused.  I have just tried the car with a genuine Ford sensor and it still won't start.  It behaves as if there is no sensor detected, however it will still start with the old damaged sensor.  Can anyone point me in the right direction?  I am seriously tearing my hair out here

Have you scanned it? What codes is it throwing? It might have nothing to do with the MAP sensor.

I have scanned it with a basic fault code reader and it is showing codes P0300 and P0700.  The P0700 is a new one that only appeared last night and relates to the transmission.  Also the codes are not stored in the engine ECU but in the A/T section and can't be cleared.

Hi, I know this is a old thread but do you have the part number still for the crankcase hose you purchased?

thanks
