Pressurized coolant

Featured Replies

Further to my previous post my situation is still as dire . Coolant loss with no visible leaks. Dry carpets ,no loss in power no e light on nothing . However that's a litre of coolant through top ups I've gone through. Heating continues to be poor and erratic.  Just done a 18 mile round trip . On getting there no coolant above min cold the 9 miles there digi temp from test menu read 105 c no fans on   Released the pressure it came up to just about full .drove home no heat till 1.5 miles from home was only out the   car 20 mins pulled into drive with like warm heat and fans running . I've only had it 1.5 months its had  a new stat new cap and I've tried to burp it twice. Think jm now going to look at my options for returning the car . My gut instinct is head gasket .  I see similar problems to mine unfortunately they just disappear without saying what caused it . Shame really as I liked the car .

For continuity of advice, you should really continue your 'previous post', many won't have a clue what problem/issue you're talking about.

Whats he talking about ........... ??????? 😜

Sorry, to be clear my previous post was about the exact same thing . Unexplained coolant loss ,pressurized coolant and poor heating . A other member asked me to check my carpets for wetness, this is now a few days down the line . Carpets are bone dry . Car is a 2015 focus tdci . Hope this ears up my previous post. 😁👍

I can confirm... that'll have been me LOL

There might still be a lot of air in the system if it has been disturbed by changing the Thermostat.

Modern engines should be vacuum bled and even then you need to go through lengthy purging procedure to get rid of the rest of the air. Not easy at this time of year when the temperatures are cold, especially with a Diesel engine.

Pay a mechanic to check the gasket. Getting it fixed is pricey especially if it’s not necessary! Have you got mayo on the coolant cap? Or on the oil dipstick?

See me getting all technical there guys? Lol

a dark horse!
not really

Anyone who ever owned a Vauxhall knows at least a little about blown head gaskets !

My gut is still a heater matrix issue - like said above, get a mechanic to check.

Defective oil cooler maybe 🤔

That's exactly why he needs a professional diagnosis LOL It's like global warming, ask 100 people the cause, you'll get 100 different answers 🤣

Thank you for replying guys I'd love it to be just that but I have started proceedings to return the car . I've given the dealer a chance to fix and sadly it's not.  What I dont get is why I'm getting a fair amount of steam from the car that smells of coolant . Genuinely dont know if a airlock etc can cause that . Finance company have instructed me not to drive the car in any case . I was there when they fitted thermostat the certainty didnt purge anything they topped it up and sent it .

Best of luck John.  I get the feeling you don’t know a trustworthy mechanic? They are a dying breed.

Apologies if it’s already been mentioned but have you checked around by the thermostat housing? Or can you see any coolant spots or streams on any pipes or other parts in the engine?  Has any coolant pooled in the sump shield at the bottom of the engine?
Coolant doesn’t just disappear as it’s a sealed circuit, there should be some evidence as to where it’s leaking.

I had a coolant leak on my 20 plate focus (1L eco boost) when it was just over a year old which turned out to be thermostat housing failure.

Hope you get it resolved.

Sounds like it might be a split hose. If it's a top hose and a small split that would cause steam and a loss of coolant, but not much of a visible leak.

A head gasket would probably show more than just a coolant problem by now.

Only 93 more reasons to go LOL 🤣

You could get one of these...

If you have a borescope camera you could, if petrol, pop the plugs out and have a peak at the piston crowns, you're looking for any that are much cleaner than the others.

Also check the exhaust for steam, when warmed up, the car, not you!! 😉

Hi guys ,can check thermostat housing . This was replaced with a new part about a month ago so will check . The car dose emit what seems to me anyway excessive amounts of steam for a lot longer than expected . This steam also smells of coolant . Coolant can also be smelt inside the car . I've went through roughly 1.5 liters of correct spec coolant in around a month. It has to be going somewhere.  I really think now that all the obvious has been checked it's only the dreaded bigger problems that may exist . As always thanks for the replies guys .

91 reasons now, come on guys, you can do it! LOL
