Dash Cam front and rear 2018 Focus Titanium- recommendation/advice

Featured Replies

Looking to get a dash cam installed. Seen a nextbase 522w in Halfords and they will be fitting it.

Advice on:

is it any good

Do I need to take it in house and charge or does it run off car?

does it interfere with vision

neighbour is a fud and can’t reverse out their driveway like normal folks -  the way they went into it and does a 3-10point turn and has nearly hit my car, in my drive on 3 known occasions.

so wanting a dash to record if she ever does what I think she either has done or will do.

thanking you in advance

All dash cams have good and bad points, 'good' is all relevant.

No, it is powered by car (you're not a petrolhead, are you LOL)

Only if you stick it in front of your eyeline!

Put it to record in 'park' mode, if car jolted, it will trigger recording - get Halfords to change the setting for you LOL

I had the same fitted by Halfords and it badly affected my DAB reception.  Their fitter tried a few different wiring options without success.  We eventually swapped it for a Blackvue 590x front and rear combination, which is almost perfect. The DAB signal drops in place but doesn’t cut out.

Did he try running the wires along the floor or adding ferrite cores to the line?

Personally I think Nextbase are way overrated and are for people who don't do their research before buying. Their failure rate after 12m is extremely high due to their internal battery. There are 3 makes I would recommend

• Viofo A129 pro duo (or better still the A139)

• Thinkware

• BlackVue

I've run Viofo in my cars now for over 8years, I have upgraded from the A129 to the A139 which has 3 separate cameras. I put the 6yr old A129 in the wife's car and it is still going strong.

The above 3 have a smaller footprint than the Nextbase and are much less obtrusive. A dashcam should be mounted at the top of the screen and just to the left of the rear view mirror, and should always always always have the screen off whilst driving.

Thanks. Much appreciated. Everything I read on them made me not convinced they worked but then they were getting “glowing” reviews.

cheers and merry Christmas

The fitter tried running the Nextbase wires along the roof and floor on both sides, with and without ferrite beads.  The BlackVue was fitted along the passenger floor with 1 ferrite bead next to the rear camera.
