Brakes

Featured Replies

I have a 2020 Ford Focus vignale and the whole car shudders when I brake. It’s only done 4500 miles and Ford say I’m a bad driver and it my fault I need new discs and pads. Has anyone had this problem and treated badly by Ford.

Don't care how 'bad' a driver you are accused of being, a brand new car with 4500 miles on the clock should not need new brakes/discs - hold your ground, be assertive and have another discussion with them staying calm and polite. I know they'll argue they are consumable items, but not in that time scale!

You can easily warp brake discs at low mileages if they're not bed in properly or if you hold the footbrake at junctions after a 'heavy application' for example.  I think you'll struggle to get Ford to accept responsibility for a warranty repair on this.

I've never 'warped' a set of discs in over 40 years, I'm obviously very lucky, or just a naturally good driver LOL 🤣

And me.

I did once have one front disc warp on a Jaguar XF with only 12000 miles. Dealership replaced both front discs and pads under warranty with no problems. They said that very occasionally it does happen that a disc will warp at low mileage for unknown reasons.

If someone said to me Try to ruin these front brakes in 4500 miles I don’t think I could. Assuming I am not allowed to press the brake pedal at same time as accelerator pedal.

My first day at Ford we had a 6 month old Fiesta van in with a heavy brake judder...  The tech said 'discs never warp but check with the dial gauge anyway'...sure enough, the disc was banana shaped!

The Fiesta vans on that contract were getting wrecked though, just not built for use on proper building sites.  My guess was hot brakes off a fast road straight into a deep, cold puddle at the site entrance.
