S Max Auto Gearbox fault

Featured Replies

I just bought a 2012 model S max with a 2.0 l DURATEC Petrol Engine and Auto box 5 days ago. The car has 89000 kms . Ran fine for the 1st 200lms and passed its MOT last week. . Yesterday I got  the dreaded Transmission fault in yellow with a error display of limited functions. Turned it off for a few minutes and restarted it. The sign had gone off. Drove it and 5 mins later the sign of Transmission fault came in red and the car was choking / stalling while driving on a straight road just a few hundred meters from home. Just about made it home .

It make a whining sound, which I though could be a serpentine belt pulley of power steering belt pump as the sound caries with the acceleration and stays on even when car is in N. I thought it could be an ENgine sound unless its a torque convertor sound.

Ran a diagnostic and no error codes. No errors while starting either now. We live on a steep slope and wonder if it had anything to do with gearbox oil being low and cornered when I first started it.

From experience are these faults electric or mechanical? Can it be fixed using a simple oil flush and filte change?

Thanks
