Mk8 auto lights playing up.

Featured Replies

Can anyone help with this? Is there an easy accessible relay that I can check? After some snow the other day my headlights are playing up,  sometimes the auto selector works, sometimes not ! Thanks, Dave

Hello David, well it makes a nice change to ask about a relay rather than a fuse.

The answer is no, the headlights are controlled by the BCM which looks at a few things first before turning on the headlights.

Make sure the area at the bottom of your windscreen is clean above where the ambient light sensor (sunlight detector) is fitted. Also make sure the windscreen (on the outside) is clean around where the rear view mirror is fitted.

With the engine running , move the switch to select manual headlights. Then switch off the car (do not adjust the headlight switch) get out and lock the car. Wait 10 minutes get back in and start the car, auto headlights should restore to normal.

Alex, the headlights wouldn't come on, and also the auto selector wouldn't engage ( no auto symbol on the display) but thanks to unofix I think it sounds an easy fix, there was snow around the lower and right side of the screen so I'll do a reset ( if needed) next time I'm in the car.

Thanks for the help, brilliant,  Dave

Did this work for you?

Reason i ask is alot of mk8 fiestas and mk2 ecosports dont have auto headlamps, i always thought the sensor was in the windscreen. Now im wondering if its all done on the sensor on the dash, this must already be used to tell the sync3 display when its night time. Wonder wether it would have 2 sensors in 1 housing or it using the same sensor. Had a quick look at used switches online and both types appear have the same amount of terminals.

Just curious if this means you can literally buy the switch and use forscan to switch on auto lights.

Think this schematics is for sync3 and non sync 3, think is why it shows 2 parts, both say auto headlamps though, just 1 does sync3 screen aswell.

I've never done this myself, but I understand that you can just change the switch and activate the auto lights using FORScan for the Fiesta.

Sometime ago now (last 2 years) there was a thread on this very subject but I can't find it at the moment.

Perfect thanks
