Electronic steering lock issues

Featured Replies

I have a 2010 Focus 1.6TDCI Titanium with keyless entry and push button start, I've had the car since March last year and it has been fine except for it occasionally throwing EGR error codes as well as a code for the auto wipers but now I have a major issue.

As the topic title says I have a problem with the steering lock not releasing.  The keyless entry is working fine and the car picks you the key for when I press the start button but the car doesn't power up and the dash displays a message saying the steering is locked and to retry.  I Can't scan for fault codes due to the ignition not coming on.  Unfortunately I've only got the one key for the car and haven't been able to arrange another yet.

Can anyone point me in the direction of where to look or test to try and sort it out.  I'm a trained mechanic but my training was years ago and I had to get out of the trade due to health issues so I'm not familiar with CAN-BUS systems.
