Focus MK1 tddi battery drain

Featured Replies

Hello, I am new here, I wonder if any one can help me. I have a Ford Focus MK1 Tddi 1.8 and I am having battery drain problem.

I have done a measure with a multimeter and  with the car off, it consumes 0.111A, I start to unplug fuse one by one and when I unplug the n°36 7.5A, the consumption drops to 0.2A.

Can anybody help me with this? Woud this be the problem?20211230_165717.thumb.jpg.a8fd2d2fad026895de42b677f59452f2.jpg

When you unplug the draw goes up according to what you have written.

I have done some more tests:

After the night passed, I went to measure the consumption and it is at 0.012A and the battery voltage at 12.50V. When I go to open the trunk, the consumption goes to 0.4A and when I close the trunk again, it is 0.111A. The trunk has no light, I don't know where this consumption takes place, nor do I know if that will be the problem.

The draw will go up when you open any doors or boot or bonnet as this will wake up the vehicle. Need to wait for the vehicle to go back to sleep. You can have doors open and boot and bonnet by using a screwdriver to move the catch to the fully closed postition. I am currently chasing down a 120ma draw that cycles between 100ma and 120ma with a pulsing action.

This draw over 10hrs =1amp which is too much if car is left for days on end.

All the above is based on a focus mk2 1.6 petrol ghia that i am looking at for someone so not familiar with it.

Try and remove fuse f3 in the engine compartment ***IF***the layout is the same that is one of the inputs to the gem/bcm. These are the ones that are bolted in. You can also chexk for draw without pulling fuses by using meter on volt range and using ogms law. However in my case i couldnt find it that way as a meter works on averages and the feed is to the internal pcb in the gem rather than the fused part.
