Non start focus

Featured Replies

Morning people. Just joined so go easy on me. Have a 2006 focus estate with a 2ltr duratorq engine. Was travelling along dual carriageway towards dartford when the message engine systems failure appeared.car went into limp mode.car limped onto hard shoulder and engine cut out. Managed to tow car home.have since replaced the battery and the fuel filter. No management light came on and code reader didn’t show up any faults. Engine will not start. Any ideas would be grateful.

Generic code readers often do not show up Ford specific DTC's.

Get a laptop and download the software FORScan (it's Free) and connect to the OBDII port with a good ELM327 modified lead.

Thanks unofix.

When you say engine will not start. Do you mean the starter motor turns the engine over but the engine does not fire up or are you saying the starter motor does not activate? I don’t know much about that engine.  Does the fuel system need bleeding when you change the filter? On other diesels they do and it can be hard to do. Can you check camshaft is turning if stater motor is turning engine over.  Eg. Undo top of belt cover and prise if open a bit to see pulley.   As I say I don’t know much about the specifics of that engine.

Ok. Engine turns over ok  but will not fire up. Yes fuel system needed bleeding  and this was  carried. Camshaft turning ok. Seems as if injectors are being blocked ie no signal from ECU.

I feel fairly sure that if you do as unofix says it will show some fault codes to possibly lead you to what the problem is. The tunnel rat code readers do work on other makes of car also with other free software so they are very handy things to have for little cost
