Dash staying on

Featured Replies

Hi

I have a 2010 Focus 1.6tdi. I’ve been having a problem with my focus leading to my car battery going flat. The dash lights aren’t going off after I’ve locked my car even after a hour. Has anyone had a similar problem and been able to fix it. Thanks I’m advanced for any help

There are many causes of this problem. Something in the car is keeping the Canbus system alive and hence the modules are not going to sleep.

Do you have hands free Bluetooth phone connection on your car ?

I’ve got blue tooth on the stereo, might this be keeping it on?

Is this the original factory fitted Ford unit ?

  • Author

Yes it is

OK.

Then I believe the Bluetooth unit is a separate module, located on top of the glovebox, (you have to remove the glovebox to get at it).

Unplug the bluetooth module and lock the car. Wait about one hour and see if the instrument cluster lights have gone out. If that fails to sort the problem then disconnect the negative lead of the battery. Then with the battery still disconnected turn the headlights on for a minute or two. Then reconnect the battery, lock the car and leave it for half an hour and see if it has gone to sleep.

REMEMBER: You will need your radio code if you disconnect the battery.

Thanks you, will give it a go tomorrow night 🤞

Hi, I’ve tried both of the above but the dash still stays on.

Hi Chris, that's unlucky mostly it's the bluetooth module.

Find the fuse for the radio and pull that out, and see if the car then shuts down.

Hi, I’ve pulled out the Audio modules battery supply fuse and locked the car.  The dash then goes off after 10 minutes.  I’ve since tried with the fuse in again and the dash stays on.  The radio no longer works after I disconnected the battery. Any idea what may be causing this?

Is the radio not needing to have the code entered ?

There is no display on the radio at all

Disconnect the battery again and leave if off for an hour. Reconnect and see if the radio comes back on. If not then I think you have kind of found the fault of your car not going to sleep. Might be time o think about replacing the radio with a new Android model.

Hi, The radio was the issue, the car went to sleep when I took the radio out. Whilst out I warmed up the radio with a hair dryer and replaced it and it worked, radio came back on and car goes off after 10 minutes.
I think the issue was caused by water coming through where the ariel is fitted.
