MK3 options for reverse camera

Featured Replies

Hi Everyone,

I'd like to install a reverse camera in my Mk3 Titanium (2013.03), but I got lost in the lot of topics.
I have this display: ford-focus-1_0.jpg?itok=aTjj2YQW

My question is, If I understand correctly I'm able to install an aftermarket camera with Fakra - RCA adapter, right?
Or do I have to go with the OEM one?

That adapter cable is only applicable on the later type of FCDIM that has a green Rosenberger HSD (4-pole and ground) camera connector. These later FCDIM types do no longer require a camera module.

If your MK3 is produced in 2013 it will have the older type of FCDIM that has a tan Fakra (1-pole and ground) camera connector.

If your car does indeed have the older type of FCDIM there are 3 possibilities to retrofit a rear view camera:

1: Replace the FCDIM by the later type of FCDIM with Rosenberger HSD connector. Install an aftermarket NTSC camera and RCA --> Rosenberger HSD adapter cable.
2: Install a Russian aftermarket camera module. Install an aftermarket NTSC camera and RCA --> Fakra adapter cable.
3. Install an original camera, wiring and camera module.

Thank you so much (again)!

I understand now, sadly I can't find a used original camera, but the first and the second option sounds great, I guess I'll go with one of them.

We are talking about this specific cable, right?
