Ford Fiesta 1.0 ecoboost mk8 have belt or chain?

Featured Replies

Hi I was wondering if the Ford Fiesta 1.0 ecoboost (connected base version) from 2020 has a timing belt or chain?

Hi Evan,

Afaik the chain came in from early in 2020 so it will depend when yours was built.

Easiest way to check is to post up a pic of your engine then we can identify it for you, but here's a pic of my timing belt engine which may help:

Not so clear cut about early 2020 even though I thought so at the time. Guess when this fiesta and many more were built. Did suprise me when I opened bonnet.

That looks like a 2021 version probably built around late April 2021 ?

Yes, I think I first saw mention of MHEV (and therefore chain, presumably) on the January 2020 Fiesta list. But MHEV was only shown on the 125/155. I'm guessing the lower powered Ecoboost (which seems to keep bouncing between 95 and 100 ps depending on which list you look at) might have continued with a belt for some time?

What makes you think that out of curiosity?

Thought I could see a date code on the engine. Or I'm just guessing ?

Oh, yeah, didn't look to be honest. Well that's when the engine was built. Car was built end Nov . It's the first one I've seen in a long time. And yes, 100hp.

I’m guessing the flipped intake/exhaust arrangement with turbo at the back gives it away?

Yeah, and the aluminium chain end cover.

It perhaps explains why i hear a bit of a metal buzzing sound when the engine is cold?

I would have thought the sensible thing to do would check the maintenance schedule in your service book.It will say in the schedule whether it has to be changed. The Cam belt is a 240,000km or 10years.If it has a chain,it would undoubtedly mention that in the service requirement.

I cannot see any difference between the two.

Should imagine the Puma would also have a chain. We get the Puma in Australia, but alas not the Fiesta anymore, except the ST variant.

Other than the 1.5 ST all the UK Pumas are 1.0 MHEV of either 125 or 155ps so will be the revised engine with chain and reversed head.

Ours are the 1 litre variant.

Hi guys

The photo above is the engine I have in my 2022 plate Courier van.

its a 1litre petrol 6 speed manual

Theres a sticker next to the oil filler cap saying 2021

Can anyone confirm if it’s wet belt or timing chain

That is the wetbelt engine.

Which power level is it out of interest?

I'm guessing 100ps?

Me too...2022 seems very late for any other.  Unless the Courier was different to the cars.
