Legal advice, return second hand car

Featured Replies

I just bought a second hand car, Ford Galaxy.

when I spoke to the salesman I asked specifically about being able to use use my phone to play audio books via bluetooth.

The stereo has a button marked CD/AUX  and it does have a bluetooth telephone ability. He said it will be able to play audio via bluetooth.

I picked up the car a few days later, (Friday night) and did't try out the bluetooth till the next day (Saturday). I now find that it does have this function.

I rang them up and they say they should be able to get an audio specialist to add this function as an addon (Monday). They said they will go halves on the cost.

I am not sure if this can be done, or would I best be returning the car and ask for money back?

Any advice is greatly appreciated.

If your car has the Bluetooth function and is not working,I think it’s reasonable to give the garage an opportunity to fix the function via an audio specialist. If the function was in the description then you could probably get away with not paying a contribution but if it was me and I was happy with the car I wouldn’t be asking for my money back👍

So for the sake of not being able to play audio books via bluetooth you want to reject the car ?

As has already been explained to you in another thread on the same subject, back in 2008 the first iPhones had just come out. Storing and streaming music (or audiobooks) from your phone was not something that had been thought about. So if you do manage to return the car you are going to have to get something newer just to get bluetooth streaming.

You can play from headphone socket on phone to aux socket.  So if the car suits in other respects you should probably just keep it.  If you reject it you have the hassle of looking for another which probably won’t have the feature anyway, as suggested above ,  and might have other hassles/ problems.

There is no Aux socket fitted on the Galaxy.

does that mean it just needs a lead plugging in back of radio like this

That may be possible, It's many years since I last had a Ford radio out of a Galaxy dashboard and I can't say I can remember if there is a connection available. Just have to hope that the OP doesn't use a modern iPhone (they don't have head phone socket).

Thanks for the help folks.

My new job will involve a fair bit of driving, so it is an important feature for me. In other cars and vans I have replaced the stereo with a more modern one for around £100.

Unfortunatly with this one being a Ghia it has an unusual surround which is not easy to get a replacement for.stereo.thumb.jpg.8a639af3e16a77758f93d89b000e1041.jpg

WOW, that looks great. I will look into this for the long term. Thanks for the info. I will be spending around 20 hours a week at work in the car so it will be worth it to have a good system.
