Ford Focus 1.6L Petrol 2009 Engine Malfunction Reduced Acceleration

Featured Replies

Hello, new to this forum and hoping for some help from knowledgable people on here! 🙂

My 2009 focus 1.6L petrol behaved very unexpectedly this evening driving home.

flashed up to say Engine Malfunction Reduced Acceleration. Same time the stability control light came on and stayed on for remaining journey home - 10 mins. In the middle of this remaining journey the speed and Rev dials dropped down to zero whilst on the move, but returned to normal function perhaps a minute or two later. However the reduced acceleration message remained. No EML light came on the dash board, just the text message saying “engine malfunction reduced acceleration” on the red back lit screen in between speed and Rev counter. The i In square box also appeared.

any ideas what this could be. I’ve read a few articles on here similar suggesting perhaps battery or instrument panel issue, but none mentioned the stability control light so wondering if any locals to this site have seen anything similar.

thanks so much for your time

You need to read the codes using Forscan and post back. There's not much we can help with until you do that.

As previously said by Luke you need the DTC's

You could try slapping the dash above the instrument cluster when the malfunction occurs. If It snaps out of the malfunction, it’s probably the cluster.

If the Fusebox/bcm behind the glovebox is wet or the plugs are falling out, this has been known to cause issues.

Do really need Diagnostic fault codes via Forscan to avoid guessing
