Bedroom paint advice.

Featured Replies

I'm doing out the 1 bedroom, going to just be t.v room/spare room.

I have got all the paper off and filled in a few holes and next step is sand it and wipe it down.

First thing is would you use a primer,i want 1 wall (main wall) a colour and thinking grey because got dark burgundy curtains and the others white (any suggestions feel free to say), don't forget curtains colour as it will get new carpet any colour i want.

The walls are orange, the old council plaster board.

Thanks.

In my opinion if the room is small,I would paint all the walls the same colour.White, off white or if you are going grey, a light grey.

Whites and greys are common at the moment but can be make a room feel a bit cold and clinical, especially on your own and in bleak winter weather etc.  I'd probably go for something with a bit of a warmer tone myself, even if it's just magnolia.

If you want white, I reckon you'll need a grey primer so it takes fewer coats to cover fully.

If you have Burgandy coloured curtains try Egyptian cotton which is a warm off white and cover you feature wall in wallpaper.

You could also look at sapphire blue or a darker shade of blue for your feature wall if you don't wish to use paper.

Cheers all for the feedback,i did think from day one all a off-white colour and my main wall a tint of grey but me and paint colours i aint got a clue.

They do that Magnolia in the 10 litre tubs, i think and get a tin of light grey,i can always change the curtains later as long as the walls/carpet is dont just there the heavy duty lined ones like a velvet feel or as you said a shade of blue as the off-white will make it feel warmer.

Grey seems very popular these days for interior walls, i have been told by a few.

Bedroom is 15ft by 10ft so not a small one.

If you get the Dulux visualiser app for your phone, you can see roughly what the colour would look like on the walls before doing it.

I had a look at next door as they have the hall in Steel grey and magnolia and looks great as the magnolia takes the cold look off the grey.

Try and see what's about or what's close to steel grey as magnolia is easy to get like Screwfix does the 10 litre tubs, only other places i know is B and M.

I think B and Q and wicks would be mad prices.

Wickes always used to be pretty cheap tbf.  Could always have a look online to see if anywhere has offers on.  It's worth buying branded paint imo...I tried Wickes 'Trade Paint' about 10 years ago, took 6 coats as it was so thin!  Wish I'd paid more for less effort afterwards.

Glad i just read this, wicks Trade paint is £16 for a 10L tub, but you said 6 coats, that tub won't last long as i have a wicks very local, might have a look in B and M.

I know screwfix have some on a deal their own make, also crown paint is cheap from places.

New colour just been released could be ideal! 😀

I once bought some cheap unknown brand white emulsion from asdA.  It was absolute rubbish . It was going to need many coats but also didn’t go on right. It was like smearing oily stuff on a wall.  Truly awful. I took it back and demanded a refund.  But still much time wasted.
