Newbie scouser in the house(er)

Featured Replies

Evening gents,

Just thought I'd drop in and introduce myself and my new motor.

My name is Jon, I'm 22 and from the one and only Liverpool (why does it sound like I'm auditioning for blind date?)

So, here is my new (to me) ST line X, which I've bought to replace an ageing, faltering MK 4 VW gold hand-me-down from big bro. I've always has a hankering for a facelift mk 3, but until recently they have been out of my price range. But thanks to a new job, and a VERY understanding fiancee, I've bit the bullet and bought a decent set of wheels to get me around.

The one compromise I did have to make is that i won't through too much dough at it and drain the bank account in 5 mins, as we have just bought our first house together, and going from having to pay £50 a week digs to the olds to now having to pay for EVERYTHING has come as a bit of a shock 😅

So, for now at least the new wheels, bigger turbo, nitrous, flux capacitor etc will have to wait as we learn what it's like in the grown up world of looking after yourself. I have sneaked a few small, cheap mods into the garage without her noticing (including the wind deflectors fitted), so in the coming weeks will be adding a few more minor touches as and when she isn't here and can't leather me for wasting money like i said i wouldn't!

Anyway, sorry for waffling on (it's a scouse thing), here's a recent pic of it looking minging after not been washed all week, which will be sorted this weekend all being well as i've got a load of detailing gear to try in her.

Cheers guys & gals 👌

I'm also Jon from Liverpool, I can assure you talking sh1te isnt just a scouse thing 🤣🤣

I had a mk3.5 like yours in red, nice cars. What engine? I had the 1.5tdci and it wasn't too bad.

Have you tried the horn yet? I'd do it somewhere where you can't be laughed at lol, it's just the hi tone like noddy had. I changed mine for the ones you see on the impreza- the hella ones. Cost £20 I think, had to take the bumper off but it was cheap and good to do.

I had wind reflectors, sequential indicators in the mirrors, gel overlay badges, vinyl wrap inside, extra LED accent lights, tinted fog lamps, black mirror caps and a few other little things. Probably cost less than a couple of hundred so it's cheap to do over a few months and easy to hide 😉 and dont forget you won that competition for some car mods too 😉😉

Don't forget to tell your insurance company about little extras, you may think they dont care but they will try and wriggle out of any claim.

I also added a reverse camera that worked exactly the same as the OEM one. Camera cost £20 and cable to programme it cost £35.

I would highly recommend getting an OBD cable and Forscan. It reads codes and you can also programme things. Your fiancee might like the doors locking at 12mph for safety.

Sorry it's a bit pic heavy lol.

Welcome to the group.

Alrite Jon, thanks for the welcome buddy!

Not tried the horn yet (which considering I drive down Speke boulevard most days is a surprise)

It's the 1.5 ecoboost petrol as I don't do the mileage to justify a diesel, 6K a year tops would be asking for trouble in a modern oil burner.

Really liking some of the mods you did to yours especially the gel badges, may have to scan ebay and see what pops up.

A reverse cam is something I want to add in the near future, and I have an ELM cable winging its way to me as we speak as I certainly want to have a play around with the possible functions in time.

I dont miss that road lol. I'm up in Scotland now.

The eb engine is good, nippy round town and nice and tight on the back roads.

I have a pal on FB who does the badges, I'm sure he is on here too. Lots of people go to DMB because they have a licence to sell the logo. Ian (the guy who did mine) will do any colour, any font etc. He also did some custom badges for my Merc.

You may find the cable you have on it's way will throw up an error message with Forscan, the devs are going down the FEPS 18V programming route and most cables dont support it. They still work for now but wont soon apparently. The new cable from Vgate Vlinker is compatible.  https://www.bmdiag.co.uk/forscan-diagnostic-cable-for-ford-vgate-vlinker-fs?gclid=Cj0KCQiAraSPBhDuARIsAM3Js4puFA5VGwcmUDnAitX-yXKNFQUU8WovAkqYsa6kxyVqx3xk8DsPcEMaAr6-EALw_wcB

It really is full of some of the biggest melts ever that road...

looks like I'll be sending my amazon special back in the near future then if it's no good

Nice one for the link, I will get it ordered up so I can sort the reverse camera/auto locking out and have a nosy on the old FB to see what I can find for the overlays 👌

Welcome to the forum John, hope you have fun doing stuff to your car, I've well been bitten by the bug.

Drove company cars for years so couldn't really do anything to them, making up for lost time now.  lol. 😄

Cheers bud, I'm trying to resist going too mental at the min but i'm not sure how long I will be able to hold out!

I started out with "reasonable goals" unfortunately it's gone a bit beyond that now... You seem quite lucky there in that you've got a decent base to start from, the bodykit, nice wheels etc already on so I guess it's largely about "personalising" your car with any performance mods when funds allow... I've started "lower down" than you so I'm currently in the process of adding the bodykit.

The front end is nearly done now and the sideskirts are in for painting as we speak.

I got a set of overlays from DMB, they are the carbon/nitrous option so not a perfect colour match for my deep impact blue, still not sure whether to put them on yet. :-/

Just having a quick scout and found a set with a black background and darkish blue ford badge which don't look too bad

For the reverse cam you will need a 54pin APIM harness, this goes into the back of the sync unit and then the OEM harness plugs into that. You need to run the camera wire up the length of the car and connect it to the RCA on the harness. The power you just take from the rear fuse box.

Cheers Jon, I've watched a few youtube vids and read numerous posts on what to do so i've kinda got an idea how to get it to work, and with the link you posted before about the ELM cable and forscan i'm looking forward to giving it a bash

Cheers David, I'm lucky in that she understands I'm bound to buy bits & pieces for it as I have done for previous cars, I just need to keep the receipts hidden and change by ebay password so she can't log on and see what I've been buying 😂

Might be in touch myself later on this year... cheers. 👍
