Ford fiesta boot light not working

Featured Replies

Hi all... 2013 ford fiesta 1.25... Boot light not working. Bulb is fine. I can't check power ect as tools are in storage as starting new job. Boot lock works as it should on key fob and tailgate. With car running and boot open it's tells me it's open so that's works fine. Been told it runs a micro switch in the boot lock that switches the boot light on but is that separate to the car knowing the boot is open. Just thinking of taking a chance and changing boot lock but don't want to if the micro switch also tells the car that boot is open which tells me that's its working so could be a wiring issue .. Any ideas.. Thanks

Do the normal interior lights work?

Yes they do.. Boot lock works on key fob and boot switch works.. Interior lights all work as they should. I'm going to check if I've got a live and if I have check the ground which i believe switches through the boot lock.. Been told to check pin 4 on boot lock and I believe pin 2 is ground

Apologies for the thread revival but did the OG get this issue resolved? And if they're not about anymore can someone help me out?

You Google Ford Fiesta boots and all you get it threads about the "Boot Open" issue. But this is the only thread I've found where the OG has my exact issue.

My boot light (as in the one inside the cargo area of the boot) doesn't work. It's not the bulb as I've changed it. My boot shows open / closed correctly on the little screen in the dash and all my other lights function 100%.

Is it a sensor in the bootlock that tells the little light when to come on? Does it have its own fuse? Can anyone shed some more light (pun intended) on this issue?

Not wishing to keep you in the dark, let me help enlighten you. 🤣

There is only one switch/sensor in the boot lock. It sends the open/close signal to the GEM (mini computer) and the signal is used to show the warning light for 'tailgate open' it is used for the alarm system and it is used for the light in the luggage area.

If the warning light on the instrument cluster is working correctly then you can rule out the switch. There is an output from the GEM which turns the light on when the tailgate is open.

There is no fuse for the luggage light, it is electronically protected by the GEM.

Haha

Thanks for coming back to me! That makes sense.

Sorry to sound silly but what is a GEM and how can I fix it to make my light work?

GEM General Electric (or electronic) Module.

It is part of the passenger compartment fuse box.

Inspect it for signs of water ingress, but it may just have developed a fault.

gotcha. Is this GEM something that can be replaced?
