Electrics going crazy

Featured Replies

Hi guys, I'm not very versatile in cars so I'll try my best to explain myself.

A couple of days ago I woke to a completely depleted bat on my Ford S-Max Titanium TDCI Mk1 FL.

I called AA thinking it would be a simple bat swap but no, got told something was draining the battery and after a little inspection we noticed the headlights turning on by themselves even with the car off and the headlights turned OFF inside of the car and not in the auto position. He then said it was an electric fault and needed to be seen at a garage. After this my radio went off and won't turn back on and later that day the alarm came on whilst driving and it wouldn't turn off. I locked and unlocked the car several times using the remote and nothing would do. I decided to disconnect the bat in order to try to shut it up, but as soon as I opened the bonnet, the alarm stopped and it remained like that ever since.   ´~

I spoke with my mechanic and he told me to try and disconnect the "central computer"?? that is located by the fuse box under the glove box and look for any signs of damp as it is more than likely that the computer got affected by damp. My question is, how do I do it? He said there is a specific order to do so and to look up online but I couldn't find it.

Unfortunately he doesn't have any availability for the next couple of weeks.

Sorry for the long post and thanks to any help provided. Much appreciated

I have no idea where the central computer is, nut what might help is to disconnect your battery for 10 minutes. The central computer will reset. It's worth to try I reckon...

Is it damp under the glovebox?

Condensation dripping into the front footwell on the passenger side

45/2006

Should a customer express concern about dampness in the front footwell on the passenger side the probable cause is incorrect manufacturing tolerances in the

joints of the climate control housing components. This allows condensation to escape from the bottom corner of the climate control housing when the air

conditioning (A/C) is operating.

To rectify this concern, the evaporator cover must be removed and butyl sealing strip applied to the gaps in the climate control housing. The affected carpet area

should be dried/cleaned with locally procured cleaning agent. It is not necessary to install a new carpet.

Before carrying out the procedure detailed in this bulletin eliminate all other possible causes for water entry into the front footwell (e.g. water entry after passing

through a car wash or during very heavy rain).

Also make sure your windscreen drains are free from leaves & other debris. I've had compost form in there...

It's a common S-Max ...

Might not hurt to check the corrosion of the "earth" connections (battery minus on chassis) ..
