Ford Smax 2.2 tdci 2008, instrument cluster and radio intermittent

Featured Replies

Hi all,

Just wondering if anyone can help. I have an intermittent instrument cluster and radio. I've had the usual suspect connector socket resoldered on the IC. I still have the issue. The gauge sometimes drop to zero and go back whilst driving and at idle with and without engine on. I'm seeing the following DTCs:

DTC 01 160787 = P1607 PCM malfunction!?
The Powertrain Control Module (PCM) controls fuel injector timing and duration, idle speed, ignition and camshaft timing, PCM back-up functions, and other functions. The Powertrain Control Module monitors itself for malfunctions. The Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) will set when the Powertrain Control Module detects an internal circuit failure.

DTC 02 90BD13 = B10BD
The Front Control/Display Interface Module (FCDIM) monitors the Multifunctional Switch. The FCDIM sets the OBDII code when the Multifunctional Switch is not to factory specifications.

DTC 03 C14000 = U0140
U0140 Lost Communication With Body Control Module

DTC 04 C15100 = U0151
U0151 Lost Communication with Restraints Control (RCM) Module

DTC 05 C19900 = U0199
U0199 Lost Communication With Door Control Module A

DTC 05 C20000 = U0200
U0200 Lost Communication With Door Control Module B

DTC 06 C20000 = U0200
Same as above..

DTC 07 C07488 = U0074
U0074 Control Module Communication Bus B Off

DTC 08 C40168 = U0401
U0401 Code - Invalid Data Received From ECM/PCM

I translated them from the C codes to Ford's code. I've tested all CAN buses for voltage and resistance and all seem OK and within tolerances (60ohms across all Can buses mm/ms/hs). I've checked earths for each bus too and seeing 2.7V over each one except 2.4V for the mm bus. From what I gather, the PCM is not seeing the BCM and neither is the RCM. Do you guys think this is a BCM issue? Another point is I had a fault with the backup alarm sounder going off (water ingress corrosion), wiper blade issues which seems to be a known fault (F26 usually fixes it temporarily until you replace or remove it). I disconnected it and taped it up rather than replace the alarm. Is it related (this was before these issues) somehow I wonder? Is there a wiring diagram for the BCM and that shows what each connector goes off to? Is there any known faults with the BCM from this year? Bit of a long message I know sorry..

Thanks for any help.
