Oil Consumption

Featured Replies

Just checked my oil level and it's just above the minimum level, this seems a bit odd as I've only done 7.5k miles and after a year in my mk6 it was still a way above the min mark

Anyone else have any experience of oil consumption in the 1.6 petrol?

I`m doing lot of short journeys to work and back (2-3km twice a day), 1-2x per month 600km pure highways at 4000-4500 rpm ->

0 - 9800 km - first oil from factory - no consumption noticeable

9800 - 20250 km - Ford Formula F 5W30 - cca 0,5l of oil missing

20250 - 24300 km - Castrol Edge 5W30 - no consumption noticeable yet

Ford were happy enough to use Magnatec at my last-year service, but that is included in their costing of my 3 year maintenance contract. Old Fiestas, pre-Mk 6, had to use special Ford oil, and the cylinder head, etc have been extensively reworked for the Mk 6 and on, so you can put the best in if you want, especially once the piston-rings are fully bedded in and giving minimal oil consumption.

You can get even better types of fully synthetic oil if you browse Opieoils website. The best type cannot be mixed with the normal factory-produced long-chain oil molecules. I think, with Edge, you could top-up with Magnatec, so you wouldn't need to flush your engine thoroughly to put in the very special type, at a service.

Cheers for the replies, anyone got any advice reguarding which oil to use? I know Ford recommend their one but is it worth it?
