2007 Ford S Max 2.0 cdti P010F fault code FIXED!

Featured Replies

Evening all, this is my first post but I felt that this forum helped me with this fault code I was having so it's only right I come back with the fix I finally found.

Intro: Ford S max 2.0 cdti, was running and driving fine until you put your foot down to over take it started going into limp mode around 2500-3000 rpm. When you stop and restart the car it resets everything and works fine until you put your foot down again. Luckily I had my snap on diagnostic tool with me so while the EML was on I plugged the diagnostics in an got a code which was P010F - Maf Sensor A/B Correlation.

The dirty bit: most forums and topics will say clean the maf, replace the maf, the turbo vanes are sticking, replace the turbo etc. But then it made me wonder, when i unplug the MAF sensor the car drives and boosts fine with no limp mode issues albeit the EML does come on which is expected so in my mind the turbo and MAF were fine.

I started looking at basic intake diagrams and how they work, air comes in, and goes through the pipes, turbo and intercooler with only a few points of reference IE the MAf sensor first and then the MAP sensor later down the line. I don't know if this was what the code was referring to but somewhere between these reference points A & B (MAF & MAP) the actual volume of air being calculated by the MAF was different to the requested volume by the MAP, so boost pressure was either leaking or additional air being sucked in somewhere.

Culprit: I can't stress how important it is to check your pipes and hoses on the intake system and intercooler system for splits, especially the hard plastic hoses. I found a split on the hose connecting to the throttle body in which air was either leaking or being sucked in, thus changing the MAF & MAP values required for the engine to run correctly. The simple fix was to clean the area of the pipe and put some heavy duty tape over the split and go for a drive. I did this and it ran perfect. The proper fix, take the hose off and replace it, I found one on ebay for £25.99, just type in Ford S MAx Intercooler hose and there are plenty to chose from.

Hose is the one on the driver side front, headlight needs removing to change which is just two screws and a plug. (intercooler to throttle body on the intake manifold).

I hope this helps someone, it may not fix your fault but atleast it will help in doing some fault finding yourself before forking over some money to a garage to check, and it saves you replacing sensors which don't need replacing.

Thanks
