5speed manual gearbox

Hi their new to the site I’ve a problem with my 2017 Ford Fiesta st line it’s the eco boost 140 bhp version .

theirs a problem with the gearbox , it gets stuck in reverse you literally can not get it out of gear unless you turn the car off , can anyone steer me in the right direction? Been looking and people say it’s the synchro ?? Also been looking at puma speed 6speed conversion any help much appreciated.

Welcome. Yes, if you have a good search around there are numerous threads on here regarding problems with that box on the 1.0 Ecoboost, particularly synchro on lower gears.

Cheers for reply is it worth fixing the box and maybe go through this problem again or do 6 speed conversation??

Can't answer that from personal experience, but Iirc the Pumaspeed conversion is around £1600 and £500 for fitting. I think Karl mentioned in the thread I linked to that his diy conversion cost about £1100 plus his own labour.

Some members have had their boxes repaired more than once under warranty. There's always a (slim) possibility that Ford might consider a contribution on an out of warranty vehicle with a 100% complete dealer service record, otherwise it's shopping round for quotes for a repair or sourcing a used 5 speed gearbox for fitting by your local garage or diy if you're able.

I've also seen used 6 speed boxes from a Mk 8 1.0 advertised (from about £300) but don't know if anyone on here has gone down that route. 

Edit: If your only problem is reverse, it might not be the synchro issue. Afaik the Mk 7.5 does not have synchro on reverse, and problems getting into/out of reverse are commonly reported. A pal of mine had issues with his 100ps car from new and just lived with it for 4 years. Dealer attitude was "they all do that sir" ! We had two Mk 7s with the same box and often had to go back into neutral to get them in gear.

Cheers for input mate I’ve had a few quotes to have gearbox rebuilt but it may go again they vary between £1200 to £1800 plus vat
